This time we’re keeping it in the family.
I saw the construction fabric on a sewing forum and about flipped when I saw it. Actually I thought Oliver might flip for it, given that he loves all vehicles and heavy machinery and has ever since I can remember. How two gay guys ended up having a capital-B boy is beyond me. It definitely shoots my sociological training in the theoretical foot, that’s for sure.
Anyway, as soon as I saw this fabric, I ordered some to make Oliver a shirt. I’ve spent the last two or three weeks putzing around with both of these shirts, obviously spending more time on the first one by adding the striped details.
The car fabric was also a Must Have!
I even had some custom tags made (and learned that I can’t write the size in marker on them because it bleeds!).
Here’s a quick shot I got this morning of Oliver in his Car shirt.
Good thing I got them done when I did; I don’t think they’re going to fit for long!

Awesome shirts, Frank! I love the car shirt the best – and I know my son would wear it all the time! I need to make him more shirts – they’re not as hard as I thought they would be, and I have a pattern already. I love your tags! You know you can get premade size ones really cheaply to sew in there with those…

I LOVE those shirts, especially the car shirt. Kimm and I were reading this post at the same time and she was like, “I want Frank to make ME a shirt”
Glad you are having fun sewing away!
Love you boobie!

These are so fabulous!! I bet he will hate it when he outgrows them! I recall some clothes like that from when I was a kid!

Adorable! Can’t wait to see them on him. Is that Michael Miller? I think I was looking at that for Evan’s room.

Let’s see some modeling shots of that little man!!!
Hope you are enjoying your summer? It seems like these are the fastest months of the entire year!

Adorable! I used that same car fabric to make some bibs for a friend’s baby shower. Love the detail on the construction shirt.

Lesson from life, throw sociology out the window. You got yourself a little boy! There are many wonderful things he will learn from you and Papa, but his own little nature was there at birth.
He will be quite the fashion plate in France this summer!

Hi Frank,
I’ve been your fan since we met at Stitches a few years ago, and have been following your blog ever since. You are so talented and creative and it’s fun to see your projects. I just noticed that your cute labels say “Oliver Twists” but your logo says “Oliver’s Twist”. Have you noticed that?

Hi Allison, good to ’see’ you! Yep I’m aware of Oliver Twists vs. Oliver’s Twist; it’s all because someone on Etsy already had the latter. Thanks for the reminder to update it on my blog!

*Squeel!!* I love them, especially the first one. What is that wonderful fabric? If I were a little boy, I’d never take them off.

I love those shirts!!! The sad part is that they grow out of them.
I noticed Olivers Twists on the label too.
Looking at that label gave me a flashback to last Monday, when I went shopping, five different stores, only to come home and find out that my shirt was on inside out….tag exposed so everyone could see my size and my washing instructions. Three days later went grocery shopping and out for lunch, only to come home to find out my shirt was on backwards. Frank I need to hire you to sew tags on all my shirts so I know how to dress myself!!! Tags that say “front” or “back” or “this side out” would be nice. “sigh”…Getting old sucks!

Love them! If you were selling those, I would buy! I have a capital-B Boy too.

The shirts are great! I always loved dressing my little boy in “construction” clothes. He’s 14 now so those days are long gone. Enjoy them while you can!

Very cute! Reminds me of a couple of shirts I made for my DS when he was that size – now he’s 12 and only lets me make his pjs!
Would you like some size labels – I went a little overboard many years ago and have a bunch I’ll never use. email me and I can pop some in an envelope to ya!
