Today is Makende’s 4th birthday! I can’t hardly believe how fast she’s growing! It seems like just yesterday she was toddling along and now she’s going NONSTOP (no really, NONSTOP!).
We are so happy to be such close friends with her parents and feel privileged that she calls both Hubby and I “tonton” (uncle in French). It’s amazing to watch her as she grows and develops into a funny, sensitive, intelligent, and inquisitive little girl.
I made this dress for her almost two years ago (actually it’s sitting in my “To Mend” pile because a button fell off; needless to say, my garment construction skills have improved dramatically!):
For her birthday this year, I made, well, um, another pink dress (not much creative about me, eh?!). Can I help it that the kid loves pink and (mostly) refuses to wear anything but dresses?
Yes, it’s really long, but if I can ever get her to slow down long enough to take a recent photo of her, you’ll see that SHE’S long, er, tall.
The fabric is by Amy Butler (I ❤ Amy Butler!) and the pattern is by That Darn Kat.
Hopefully I’ll have a modeled photo soon!

That is so adorable. You are a wonderful “uncle.” I love Amy Butler fabrics, too. The rest of my curtains will be Amy Butler. I might even make a bag or two with the left overs.

Gorgeous child, gorgeous fabric, gorgeous dress! What a talented uncle you are. Loved Oliver’s shirts from the earlier posts too
A bit of bright colour was really welcome after the cold, grey, wet and windy weather that has greeted my return home …. roll on Spring lol!

ok enough already! I am so envious of your sewing skills! You make the most beautiful items. Where in the world do you find all these neat patterns and this Amy Butler fabric you rave about? I don’t get out to all the small towns with the specialty quilt shops my mother loves to frequent – bet I’d find cool fabrics like these there. I miss sewing for my kids and have never mastered doing much for myself, although I should try to tackle it. You are inspiring me to try to make time for projects. This can turn dangerous and costly….

Good Lord, that really is about the cutest dress on the planet, seriously (both of them). Of course, it’s for probably the cutest girl on the planet (OMG *squee!!* Srsly.) Thanks for the heads-up on the pattern– zooming off to get one to make for my wee nieces. !!!!
